The sacred forest (Ouidah)

The sacred forest Still called "Kpassèzoun" which means "the forest of king Kpassè", the sacred forest of Ouidah is an emblematic and ancestral forest. "Kpassè" was the king of Savi (current Ouidah) during the 14th century. According to the story, when Kpassè died, he transformed into an Iroko tree which became a deity receiving sacrifices in the heart of the forest.
Since the "Ouidah 1992" festival initiated by former President of Benin Nicéphore Dieudonné SOGLO, which aims to promote Voodoo as a distinctive cultural heritage, this forest has remained and remains a key stage in the discovery of Ouidah.
