OUIDAH, a memory of triangular commerce and the temple of the Pythons
The temple of the Pythons Once in Ouidah, exploring the city almost always begins with a visit to the Temple of the Pythons. More precisely, they are the royal pythons: they are harmless and constitute a worshiped deity who ensures the protection of the city. Apart from the reptiles, the temple is home to a giant Iroko at the foot of which traditional ceremonies are performed until today. In addition, the presence of a large jar confirms the sanctity of the site. The jar is used every 7 years in a city cleansing ritual. If you want to understand and better understand the place occupied by pythons within the royal dynasty of Ouidah, come and discover the Temple of the Pythons!
