The SILVA Museum of Creole Arts and Cultures of Porto-Novo

It is a private museum created by Urbain Karim Elisio da SILVA in 1998. It is the expression architectural representation of Afro-Brazilian houses in Porto-Novo. From the outside, the facade exhibits the course of the slave trade: works that invite to cross the entrance door to the museum. The specificity of this museum is the highlighting of "Agoudas" whose origins are diverse. The ‘’ Agoudas ’’ are usually Africans sold during the triangular trade, who returned from Brazil and were able to build a new social identity. The visit consists of the presentation of activists of the black cause, objects from ancient times and honor to the heroes of the da SILVA family. This museum is accessible to all, but Afro-descendants are particularly welcome to learn a little more about their origin.
